CROWDS FLOCK TO BRIGHTON'S WHITE NIGHT

There was something for everyone at the annual White Night festival

With hundreds of performers at 70 events across the city, there was something for everyone at the fourth annual White Night festival celebrating the end of British Summer Time and the extra hour of night.

Many of Brighton and Hove’s open spaces were transformed, including Old Steine which became an alternative village fête, Jubilee Square, became a hi-tech video installation, and New Road, which became a Dolly Parton concert venue.  Museums, religious buildings, libraries and even the city’s aquarium hosted live performances, talks, video displays and interactive events.

Festival director Donna Close said it was the biggest White Night ever, with some 45,000 people estimated to have attended.  She said, ‘I think it was a really brave programme and our theme worked really well.  My personal highlights included the life-drawing sessions in St Paul’s and clay modelling in the Komedia, which were nice calm spaces.’
