DUKE OF YORK'S CINEMA NAMED UK'S FAVOURITE!

Praised it for its selection of films, comfortable seats, its cake and beer and its impressive Grade II listed building

On the day the Oscar nominations were announced, the independent cinema in Preston Circus, Brighton, was voted top picture house by visitors to leading consumer review site qype.co.uk.

Manager Jon Barrenechea said the accolade means so much because it was chosen by cinema-goers.  He said, ‘Obviously we are very proud. It is great because it is a vote by people who come and visit.  We are really keen to make our customers happy in any way we can.  We are only small but we try to make every experience as unique as possible.’

The Duke of York’s beat competition from the British Film Institute in Waterloo, London, and FACT in Liverpool.  Qype chose the winner based on reviews left over the past six months.  One reviewer said, ‘I actually have friends who want to get married here.  Obviously they love watching films but more than that, there is no place like the Duke of York’s.’

Mr Barrenechea confirmed the cinema secured a wedding licence last year and hosted its first ceremony in the summer.
