ENGLAND LOVE IT AT THE AMEX!

A crowd of almost 17,000 watched the England under-19s beat Denmark 1-0

England thanked Albion and all the fans who flocked to The Amex last night for another landmark occasion.  It was the first international to be staged at the recently opened venue and England coach Noel Blake said, "It's a terrific stadium, terrific support.  More than 16,000 for an under-19 international is impressive.  I was delighted with the facilities, with the crowd, with the behaviour of the crowd.  They gave respect to both national anthems and the minute's silence. I thought they were terrific."

The Danes were certainly in for a culture shock as they walked out for kick-off.  Their previous game in Austria attracted an attendance of 417 and their most recent win in Malta was watched by just 75 paying spectators.

The Amex was treated to its first Mexican Wave after just 11 minutes of last night’s game as supporters on all four sides of the ground joined in enthusiastically.  For many members of a predominantly young crowd this was a first taste of international football – and what a place to enjoy it!
