MONTY SIGNS SUSSEX CONTRACT EXTENSION

England International spinner Monty Panesar signs new contract at Sussex CCC

Sussex County Cricket Club has announced that their England International Spinner Monty Panesar has signed a new three-year extension to his current contract.  This will see him remain at The Probiz County Ground until at least the end of the 2015 season.

The 29 year old took 69 wickets on Sussex’s return to the LV County Championship Division One, playing in all 16 matches as he finished only four scalps short of the leading wicket taker.  Monty has now taken 121 first-class wickets across his two seasons at Hove along with 42 Clydesdale Bank 40 and Friends Life 20 wickets and will be looking forward to adding to that tally in the future at The Probiz.

Panesar, who will be playing first grade cricket for Sydney-based club side Randwick Petersham this winter, said of his extension, ‘ I am delighted to have pledged my future to Sussex and am equally pleased in the commitment that the club have show to me.  The club is going through an exciting period and I’m looking forward to helping them challenge for trophies.  I aim to repay their faith by continuing my good form in all formats of the game whilst also improving my chances of reclaiming my place in the England side.

Sussex Professional Cricket Manager Mark Robinson said, ‘Monty is one of the best finger spinners in the world and we know how lucky we are to have him here at Hove.’
