Olympic Boost For Sussex Economy

The London Olympic Games is pumping millions of pounds into the Sussex economy - more than a year before the events begin.

Business leaders report that 40 companies in Sussex have won contracts for the Olympic Games - ranging from construction deals to high profile merchandising contracts.

The South East England Development Agency (Seeda) said that 3,634 businesses in Sussex have registered to bid for contracts to supply the 2012 Games, totalling 6% of all businesses in the county.

A company in Burgess Hill has secured the official souvenirs licence for the Games.  Another company based near Arundel has won a contract for the construction of the diving boards for the Aquatics Centre.  Other contracts won in Sussex include deals for the construction of the Olympic Stadium, communications and maintenance.  Many companies in West Sussex have already won top-tier contracts and even more are benefiting from the supply chains.

Although the initial cash injection for the successful companies is temporary there will undoubtedly be a long-term benefit for these businesses by being associated with the London Olympic Games.
