POYET AND BLOOM WIN SUSSEX AWARDS

Gus and Tony both winners at The Argus Achievement Awards

The Albion manager won the 'Outstanding Contribution to Sussex Sport' award after he guided the club to the 2010/11 League One title during his first full season at the helm, and has instigated an impressive start to the new Championship season.

Gus Poyet said, ‘I'm very proud to win this award because it recognises all of the hard work that myself, my staff and the team have put in over the last 12 months.  Every day we are working to drive this club forward on and off the pitch, and that resulted in a rewarding past year for the football club. For that to be appreciated within the local area makes it extra special for us all.  We will continue to commit ourselves and hopefully that will result in more success for the club and for Sussex. I would also like to congratulate all of the other winners.’

Tony Bloom won the 'Outstanding Contribution to Sussex' award, with a staggering 89 per cent of the public vote, following a year which has seen Brighton & Hove Albion grow in stature through on-field success and the move into their new home: the stunning American Express Community Stadium.

The Argus wrote, 'Club chairman Mr Bloom will forever be a hero to Seagulls fans for bankrolling the club's move to their stunning new stadium.  A passionate Albion fan for more than 30 years, Mr Bloom is following in the footsteps of his grandfather Harry and uncle Ray.  His timing couldn't be better as he has overseen the club being promoted to the Championship. Wherever he goes, he is always mobbed by grateful Seagulls' supporters eager to buy him a drink.'

Now in their tenth year, The Argus Achievement Awards continue to recognise outstanding achievements of individuals and organisations across Sussex. The Awards champion all those who deserve recognition for their selfless, brave, generous, innovative, hard working or ethical actions during the past year.
