SOLSTICE SPECTACLE!

This totally unique event creates a real buzz around the city – one of the reasons why people love living in Brighton!

Thousands of people turned out to ‘summon the sun, embrace the winter and celebrate the passing year’ at this year’s Burning The Clocks – a unique community event that brought the whole city together to mark the shortest day and usher in the sun.

A parade of people, paper clocks, candles and dragons wound its way through the streets of Brighton before the lanterns were set alight on the beach.  Costumes featured clocks and clock faces to represent the passing of time.  The procession, led by local bands, followed the ‘Our Lady of Light’ lantern down to the sea to welcome the lengthening days as the winter solstice passes.  Hundreds of people watched as lanterns were set alight and fireworks shot into the night sky.
