SUSSEX STUDENT RADIO WINS PRESTIGIOUS NATIONAL AWARD

University Radio Falmer Wins Gold Award For Best Interview

The student station won the Gold Award in the Best Interview category for Kit Bradshaw’s interview with Sussex tutor Luke Cooper in the wake of last year's student protests at Millbank Tower.  URF was the only student station from the south-east to win an award.

URF's award was presented by BBC Radio 1 newsreader Tulip Mazumdar, who said that the winning entry ‘demonstrated good subject knowledge and structure to the interview, which has a defined course and follows a logical path of questioning, with the interviewer letting the interviewee talk without interrupting’.  She added, ‘Overall, the interview is really impressive and delivers a 'to the point' interview.’

On receiving the award for URF at a star-studded ceremony at London’s O2, Kit Bradshaw who is also the station's Chairman and former Head of News, said: ‘This means so much to us, we're such a small station and we're so proud of what we've achieved. This is a great win for the whole of URF.’  As well as a trophy and certificate, Bradshaw also won an interview masterclass with industry professionals as part of the prize.

The annual ceremony, organised by the Student Radio Association, was hosted by Radio 1's Scott Mills and Annie Mac and attended by other industry stars such as Tim Westwood and Steve Lamacq.
