VINTIQUES Kemptown's Enchanting New Emporium

‘Vintiques’, in the heart of Kemptown’s Antiques Quarter is the brainchild of local resident and antiques expert Mark Stacey.

Mark has been in the Antiques Trade for more than 20 years, firstly as a dealer and then working for world-famous auctioneers Sotheby’s and Bonhams.  He is one of the UK’s best-known and popular valuers, appearing on many of the BBC’s popular Antiques programmes.  In addition Mark is involved with many charities.

Mark’s shop Vintiques sells a huge range of objects ranging from the 19th century to the present day including small pieces of furniture, ceramics, silver, glass, mirrors and paintings – with a strong emphasis on the retro.

Mark explained, ‘I first lived in Brighton 15 years ago and although I moved away, I was always coming back.  Three and a half years ago, I had the chance to move back to live here. During my time at Sotheby’s, my eyes were opened to the wider market and the objects I was able to handle were wonderful – it was a magnificent learning curve! So, when I was offered the opportunity to buy the shop in Kemptown – an area which I love because of it’s Bohemian feel - I jumped at the chance!’

The building is full of character and really quirky and looks amazing with the mix of traditional antiques contrasted with Art Deco, vintage and retro pieces. Mark is hoping to hold a yearly selling exhibition in the shop, and this year he is planning to focus on the work of Lalique.
