Cinecity returns to the Duke of York’s Picturehouse and other venues around the city in a packed programme over 18 days.  Featuring the very best in international cinema with a glorious mix of premieres and previews, artists’ cinema and installations, treasures from the archive, retrospectives, education screenings and events, talks and debates.

The Opening Night film is Steve McQueen’s SHAME.

Continuing the very strong showing of British films there is also a preview of THE DEEP BLUE SEA starring Rachel Weisz.  Also screening is Ralph Fiennes’ directorial debut CORIOLANUS.

International Award-Winning Dramas include Paolo Sorrentino’s THIS MUST BE THE PLACE starring Sean Penn and Bela Tarr’s Berlin Film Festival winner THE TURIN HORSE.

A poetic look at the flipside of the American Dream through the lives of California’s dirt poor, BOMBAY BEACH was winner of the best Documentary Feature award at Tribeca.

THIS OUR STILL LIFE,  a portrait of a Pyrenean farmhouse through the eyes and ears of film-maker Andrew Kotting and his daughter Eden is complemented by an exhibition at the University of Brighton’s South Gallery.  Austrian film-maker Martin Arnold presents an Installation at the University of Brighton North Gallery.  SOFT PALATE is a darkly humorous twist on Micky mouse and Pluto.

Artists’ Cinema screenings include Ben Rivers’ debut feature-length work TWO YEARS AT SEA and a complete screening of the series DO YOU LOVE ME LIKE I LOVE YOU made by Iain Forsyth and Jane Pollard to accompany the comprehensive re-issue of Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds influential back catalogue.

THE MAGICAL MISERY TOUR - a new live set from People Like Us, is a surreal audio-visual collage based around extracts from hundreds of horror films which will be performed at the Sallis Benney Theatre Sat 19 November.

The Closing Night Film, Roman Polanski’s CARNAGE, will be screened at the Duke of York’s Picturehouse on Sunday 4th December.
