In the world of opera Glyndebourne is unique - recognised globally as one of the great opera houses. The Glyndebourne Festival runs until 29th August.
Following the huge success at Glyndebourne of The Fairy Queen last summer, Jonathon Kent returns to direct a new production of Don Giovanni, conducted by Music Director Vladimir Jurowski. Revivals of Cosi fan tutte, Macbeth, Hansel und Gretel and Rake's Progress complete the season. Canadian bass-baritone Gerald Finley, who has appeared in numerous Glyndebourne productions since joining the Chorus in 1986, takes the title role. Italian bass Luca Pisaroni, who sang Guglielmo in the 2006 Festival production of Così fan tutte, will sing Leporello.
With the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment A fresh cast of young lovers features British soprano Sally Matthews as Fiordiligi, who sang Lauretta in the 2004 Glyndebourne production of Gianni Schicchi. British tenor Allan Clayton, who made his Glyndebourne debut in the title role of Albert Herring for the 2008 Glyndebourne Festival, sings the role of Ferrando. German mezzo-soprano Barbara Senator, who sang Second Nymph in last year’s Festival production of Rusalka, will sing Dorabella. Canadian bass-baritone Robert Gleadow will make his Glyndebourne debut as Guglielmo. Italian baritone Pietro Spagnoli sings Don Alfonso following his role as Dandini in the 2007 Glyndebourne Festival production of La Cenerentola, with French soprano Anna Maria Panzarella as Despina, following her performances as Susanna in the 2005 Glyndebourne On Tour production of Le nozze di Figaro.

With the London Philharmonic Orchestra Finnish tenor Topi Lehtipuu and Swedish soprano Miah Persson - previously heard together as Ferrando and Fiordiligi in the 2006 Glyndebourne Festival production of Così fan tutte- are reunited for the roles of Tom Rakewell and Anne Trulove. British basses Matthew Rose and Clive Bayley sing the roles of Nick Shadow and Father Trulove respectively. British mezzo-soprano Susan Gorton, who has sung numerous roles at Glyndebourne, sings Mother Goose, with Russian mezzo-soprano Elena Manstina as Baba the Turk and British tenor Graham Clark as Sellem, both making their Glyndebourne debuts.
